About Our Community
We have promised ourselves that we shall always treat our residents as we would our own loved ones. Nothing less than our best will do.
A Campus Community
Brookdale Christown, formerly Chris Ridge, is one of the largest and most comprehensive continuing care communities in the Greater Phoenix area. Our campus offers four different types of communities, including:
- An elegant retirement community, offering a wide selection of apartments, for independent seniors looking for the security, convenience and comfort.
- Assisted living apartments, located on the third floor, are for residents who need some extra assistance with activities of daily living.
- Our memory care community on our first floor offers 22 small and large studios, including Friendship Suites for residents in need of companionship and a lower cost living option.
- Our skilled nursing facility, located on the same floor as our Assisted Living community, is the skilled nursing hub for all 13 Brookdale communities in the Greater Phoenix area – as well as for anyone in need throughout the immediate area. Should a resident fall and break their hip, have a stroke or suffer any other injury or illness and require around-the-clock nursing care, we offer both short- and long-term rehabilitation in an upscale community that feels like home.
With everything available on one campus, residents can easily move from one community to another should their health needs change. Their friends and surroundings remain the same, helping making the transition virtually seamless.
A Perfect Location
Brookdale Christown offers it all – all on one beautiful campus, centrallly located right off I-17 and just next door to Phoenix Baptist Hospital. We’re also close to the diverse amenities throughout the North Phoenix corridor – the Spectrum Mall, which is less than a half mile away, many banks and restaurants, several libraries and churches – anything a resident could want is within just a few miles.
Our outings include trips to the Phoenix Theater, the Phoenix Symphony, the opera, and the local casinos. We also take residents to the local Irish Cultural Center, the Japanese Friendship Gardens and several senior centers in the area. What’s more, a senior center owned by the Jewish Family and Children’s Services, is located right here on the Brookdale Christown campus.
A Wonderful Selection
From spacious apartments in our large retirement community to skilled nursing care, we offer virtually every type of service and amenity that a resident would need.
Independent Living – Our one- and two-bedroom retirement apartments are bright and spacious, each with either a patio or balcony, full kitchen and at least one bathroom – some handicapped accessible.
Assisted Living – Our third-floor assisted living community provides 36 studios, each with a private bathroom equipped for seniors, as well as a kitchenette.
Memory care apartments are available as private studios or as Friendship Suites for residents who need companionship and are looking to share rent costs. All accommodations include wall-to-wall carpeting, individually controlled heat and air conditioning, all utilities including cable and a 24-hour emergency response system.
Skilled Nursing – Our 60-bed skilled nursing facility provides both shared and private rooms – and its residents have access to the entire community.
Throughout our campus, common areas abound, and all residents have full access to all of them, providing many opportunities for them to make friends, visit with family and partake in our full calendar of activities.
Our lovely café is much like an upscale bistro. Our library has a large selection of books, as well as a computer lab with six computers and Internet access. Our retirement community also offers an activities room, a cinema room for movie nights, a well-equipped and highly utilized craft room, a spacious dining room, a beauty salon and a billiards room. Memory care and assisted living also have their own dining rooms, where they too are served by a helpful and courteous waitstaff.
In the center of our campus is a large heated outdoor swimming pool, partially covered by an awning, so that residents can enjoy the pool without worrying about being out in the direct sun. A jacuzzi is also located in the pool area.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
For convenient, expert care, Brookdale Christown has its own rehabilitation services group – Brookdale Christown Premier Care and Rehab – here on campus to care for any resident in need of physical, speech, occupational and other rehabilitative services. Services are also available to our skilled nursing residents – on a short- or long-term basis, depending upon the severity of their injury or illness.
In addition, many health-care providers come in from the surrounding area to see residents in the comfort of their own homes, from local physicians to several hospice agencies. We also sponsor a variety of health clinics. A visiting podiatrist provides comprehensive foot care, especially important for our diabetic residents. Through our mobility clinic, we offer residents free maintenance for their wheelchairs, walkers and other rehabilitation equipment. And we offer wellness clinics during which a nursing staff provides on-site blood pressure checks, as well as vision and hearing screenings.
We take the Brookdale motto – “Our family is committed to yours” – to heart and live this promise in everything we do. We are here to provide assistance with whatever our residents need, whether that’s help sorting through the complexities of social security, finding a new doctor or using the Internet.
Our warm, caring and professional staff, many of whom have been here for four years or more, are devoted to making sure residents feel well cared for and that they know they can depend upon us for all of their needs. From our three full-time Executive Directors, three Community Relations Directors, four Life Enrichment Directors to our dining staff and all of our Resident Assistants, our family truly is committed to our residents and their families.
Our Community Lifestyle
A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
Brookdale Christown employs four full-time Life Enrichment Directors, who are responsible for planning and overseeing our activities program. With such a wonderful dedicated staff, there is always something going on at our community – often, there are several activities planned during the same time frame. Residents can choose from a variety of exercise programs, including Tai Chi, yoga, Zumba, water aerobics and chair dancing. We offer all kinds of arts and crafts, from baking and sewing to seasonal crafts. In our cinema, we show new movies – selected by residents – as well as major television shows, from the Macy’s Day Parade on Thanksgiving to sporting events.
Brookdale Christown also sponsors many major themed events to which family and the community-at-large is welcome. Jewish holidays, October Fest, a Summer Night in Venice, during which Italian food was served while a violinist strolled around entertaining residents, and an International Festival are just a few of the many themed dinners we have held.
Often, our own talented residents put on variety shows, which are directed by one of our Life Enrichment Directors. And of course, every major holiday is celebrated in true Chris Ridge style – with great food, family, friends and entertainment!
Should a resident not find something on our calendar that they wish to do, they can always take full advantage of the ongoing activities provided through the Jewish Family and Children’s Services senior center, located right here on campus.
Partnering With the Local Neighborhood Community
As you can imagine, Brookdale Christown is an integral part of the North Phoenix area and as such, we sponsor many outside groups, including the Phoenix scrabble group, the Ostomy support group and a special group for the family members of loved ones who have Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia. Brookdale Christown also actively supports local senior centers, for example, providing food for major events. And many of our residents get involved with several of the local food banks, helping organize food drives throughout the year.
Our community also hosts a wide range of lectures and educational programs given by outside experts, from current events to a world’s religion program.
Our independent residents are served meals in our main dining room, which looks exactly like a fine dining restaurant, complete with linens and courteous wait staff. Each meal offers four courses, starting with a choice of soup or salad, two entrees, plus one selection featuring fish each day; a choice of sides and a delicious dessert. Continental breakfast is served in our café on Main Street, which offers casual fare throughout the day.
Assisted living residents have their own dining room, where they are served three meals each day. Our menu includes 21 different entrees each week. With so much choice, residents can have something completely different every day of the month if they so choose. We also honor virtually any special dietary need, from mechanical soft to thickened liquids. In addition, we can modify our recipes to build calorie content in a nutritional way, helping support the needs of residents with weight-loss issues.
Our memory care community has its own dining room, where the menu is the same as Assisted Living, with the addition of many easy-to-handle finger foods. Their meals are served on brightly colored plates, making it easier for them to distinguish the food from the plate. The daily menu also includes a structured snack program – often choices they may remember from their childhood – peanut butter on crackers, gram crackers, for example – to help trigger pleasant memories.
We offer a tray service to our skilled nursing residents, with meals made to reflect doctor’s orders. Our full-time dietician keeps careful track of each resident’s dietary restrictions, as well as tries to support each resident’s individual dietary preferences.
