About Our Community
We have promised ourselves that we shall always treat our residents as we would our own loved ones. Nothing less than our best will do.
This is the promise that the staff at Emeritus at Bear Creek – and throughout Brookdale Senior Living communities – has shared since 1999, when our community first opened its doors. It’s a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful – a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our retirees who have chosen our community for its active lifestyle.
The Perfect Location
Emeritus at Bear Creek is nestled against the mountains, in the southwest part of Colorado Springs, just a short distance from Highway 24(Cimarron Street) and I-25. We are directly across from Bear Creek Regional park, hosting one of the largest and most beautiful dog parks in the city. We enjoy a beautiful view of Cheyenne Mountain, and watching the deer as they wander around the grounds. Memorial Hospital Central, and Penrose Main, are less than a 15 minute drive, and shopping is just over the hill.
A Wonderful Selection
We are a continuum of care community, with assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehab, and long term care all on the same campus. Visiting friends throughout each neighborhood within the community is safe and easy, as we are all under the same roof, in the same building, eliminating the need to go outside. We offer studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom apartments, in varying sizes and designs. The newly remodeled décor flows through the entire community, including skilled nursing and rehab, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Soft, but well lit areas and tasteful appointments make you feel like you are in your own living room. There is no overhead paging and if you stop by our memory care neighborhood, the smell of fresh baked bread will remind you or home. Do not be surprised to see “man’s best friend” on the premises, as we are also pet friendly.
One of the most important attributes at Emeritus at Bear Creek is our Team. While aesthetics can be impressive, it’s really the care that counts. We are proud to say that we have several Managers that have been with us since the building opened 12+ years ago, and over 50% of our team members have been here 5 or more years.
Our Community Lifestyle
A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
All of our activities are designed to enhance the psycho-social needs of a population with varied interests, and with a variety of cognitive abilities. We offer daily exercise programs, such as horseshoes, bowling, golf and chair exercises (including weight training). Our resident also provide input through a monthly resident council for specialized activities such as a walking club, specialized singing groups, talent shows, and afternoon teas. We host bimonthly book mobiles, shopping excursions and various spiritual programs, to include bible study, church outings and Shabbat. We celebrate all major holidays with activities that include the residents and their families, such as our annual Easter Parade, trick or treat night and Christmas buffet.
Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community
Brookdale Senior Living is a strong supporter of the Alzheimer Foundation, and we follow through with that commitment at the local level. We are actively involved in fundraisers for Memory in Making, and the Memory walk, as well as including our residents and their families in the events. We participate with the Senior Resource Council, and monthly lunch and learns to stay informed on local events that impact healthcare and our community, and our activities department reaches out to church groups, schools, and the fine arts community to provide activities, cultural exposure and entertainment to our residents.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
We are involved with the case management staff, social workers and doctor’s at all the hospitals in Colorado Springs, as well as the surrounding areas of Pueblo and Woodland Park. We also work closely with other rehab centers, assisted living communities and behavioral hospitals to assist in providing alternatives for continuing care. We provide educational information to and council with, Home Health Care providers, all the hospice providers, the Ombudsman, VA and Elder Life financial. It is important to have a good repertoire of resources, since health care requirements can be so varied, and is such an individual choice. We at Emeritus at Bear Creek, believe in making sure that every Senior is “Safely Somewhere”!
Emeritus at Bear Creek provides a creative and varied menu, through the supervision of our dining services director. His 9 year career began with Celebrity Cruise lines, and included multiple venues, as well as Charles Court at the Broadmoor. Our assisted living offers a continental breakfast in our country kitchen located on each floor, with coffee, juice, fruit, muffins and cereal for those who prefer to laze around or take breakfast to their room. We have 3 separate dining rooms, one in each community, and offer room service in our skilled nursing and rehab community. We can accommodate all types of special diets, and provide dining assistance when necessary. Our residents take part in a monthly meeting where they review and provide input for past and future menu’s, giving important validation to each resident’s sense of self-worth and individuality. We take pride in celebrating special events such as our Christmas Dinner feast, where ice carvings and Beef Wellington were featured by our experienced and talented dining services director.
