About Our Community
We have promised ourselves that we shall always treat our residents as we would our own loved ones. Nothing less than our best will do.
This is the promise that the staff at Emeritus at Burr Ridge – and throughout Brookdale Senior Living communities – has shared since 1994, when our community first opened its doors. It’s a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful – a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our residents who have chosen our retirement community for its active lifestyle.
The Perfect Location
Emeritus at Burr Ridge is conveniently located in the western suburbs of Chicago, on Plainfield Road, with easy access to several major highways, including I-55, I-294, I-88 and I-355, which lead in all directions to Wisconsin, Missouri and Indiana. Within close proximity are two main hospitals – Hinsdale and La Grange – equidistance from our community. In addition, we are just 25 minutes from downtown Chicago, with access to some of the city’s best shopping centers and attractions, including museums, theaters, casinos and zoos. This area is second to none in the quality and diversity of these offerings.
A Wonderful Selection
Unlike most assisted living communities, Emeritus at Burr Ridge offers both assisted living and skilled nursing care all under one roof. Our 102 assisted living studio and delux apartments, located on just two floors, each offer a refrigerator, microwave and private bathroom equipped with safety handrails, as well as an emergency call system to provide for the safety of our residents. Should they need assistance, they simply press the call button, anytime – day or night. We are also a 30-bed Medicare-certified Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. So residents can easily remain right here at “home,” while receiving the full range of onsite therapy services required, including physical, occupational and speech therapy. For the convenience of our residents, we also have a team of physicians and other consulting specialty providers who visit our community on a regular basis. These include podiatrists, dentists, audiologists, nephrologists and psychiatrists.
Many people who visit our community tell us how well-maintained and eye-pleasing our building is. That’s due in part, to all of the large windows, perfectly manicured landscaping and welcoming front entrance that provides a lovely, tranquil spot for residents to sit and enjoy a little quiet time or visit with loved ones. Inside, we offer several welcoming common rooms – a lovely living area, dining room, exercise room, activities room and sitting room with large-screen television – providing a friendly, home-like atmosphere for residents and their families and friends. We also offer a private courtyard – truly a showcase of the superb talents of our Garden Club – that serves as gathering place. This is also where we hold cookouts throughout the summer, spring and fall months.
Our staff members are committed to providing the highest quality of care and compassion to our residents. They always greet residents with a smile – and genuine concern – and treat them just like they would their own family members. It’s this dedication to service that inspires so many of our staff, including our management, resident assistants, chefs, housekeepers and nurses, to continue working here. In fact, many staff members have been here 10-plus years; some have been here since the building opened in 1994. Such longevity underscores how much they enjoy working with residents; they are here for all the right reasons, and it truly shows! Our family is truly committed to yours!
Our Community Lifestyle
A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
Our wonderful activities program includes all kinds of programs – some educational, some social, others cultural and still others, devoted to nurturing the spirit and soul. Our staff works closely together with residents to decide upon and coordinate the specific activities. From scenic drives and shopping expeditions to our Gourmet Club, which takes in a variety of local restaurants offering different cuisine, we strive to offer something for everyone. We even have local artists who come into our community to help enhance our residents’ innate artistic abilities – and offer drumming for those who enjoy this popular activity. Even our exercise program is varied – and offers several advanced courses, including Hawaiian dance and Zumba classes. A trip downtown to go shopping, a visit to the zoo, a night at the movies or the casino – the possibilities for fun, socialization and education are endless!
Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community
Every month, we invite our family members, along with residents in Burr Ridge, Hinsdale, LaGrange and surrounding neighborhoods, to attend a wide variety of special events, held right here at our community. Through our education program, we bring in all kinds of professionals – financial planners, lawyers, home care and hospice agencies, and representatives from the Veterans Association. We also offer fun, family-oriented events, such as car shows, picnics, haunted houses, caroling, Hawaiian dancers, Casino nights, as well as other entertainers – again open the general public.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
We partner with a wide range of healthcare providers, home health and hospice agencies and physician specialists. All outside caregivers are welcome to provide services right here, on site. Family members are always welcome to choose whichever caregiver they would like – or we can make suggestions if necessary. In addition, we work closely with all third-party caregivers that provide services here at our community, ensuring that our nursing staff is kept current with the resident’s health status.
We strive to create a pleasant dining experience that encourages independence and offers residents the highest quality cuisine. In fact, our meals are made by our highly trained chefs, who use “from scratch” recipes. All meals are served restaurant style, utilizing contrasting colors in linens and china to help our residents – especially those with memory impairments – more easily distinguish the food on their plates. This is just one example of how we help promote independence.
In addition, we work with a consulting dietitian to help those residents who have special dietary needs, with our Certified Dietary Manager overseeing the meals being prepared and served. To encourage proper fluid intake and nutrition, we offer comprehensive hydration and nutrition programs that center on the healthiest preparation of foods. Our food service committee also gives our dietary staff great suggestions for special menus, and each month, our chef prepares a wonderful birthday lunch for all residents having a birthday that month.
Last week, Ginna Baik (Director of Innovation & Resident Technology) came to Emeritus at Burr Ridge to launch My Emeritus, our newest technology network keeping residents connected with the community, family and friends. Baik gave a powerful presentation in which a resident and her daughter spoke to her granddaughter and their family with two small [...]
