About Our Community
Fairhaven district has a history worth knowing. Old Towne clings to the seaside with a working shipyard and boardwalk. Cars rumble by slowly on cobble stone streets, old brick buildings house unique shops and memorable restaurants. Those blessed with time can spend plenty of it here within its few but intricate streets and lanes. Just minutes around Bellingham Bay lay the City of Bellingham where you can find everything you want and more, easily accessed by the Interstate 5 just two blocks east. Fairhaven’s Alaska State Ferry Terminal and Amtrack Station provide a diverse travel system in all directions.
Northwest Washington is home to the giant cedars and douglas firs of logging legend. Most say it is not too hot and not too cold, just like Goldilocks’ porridge. Within our sunny south side neighborhood of Fairhaven, we enjoy the quiet of the parks and trails that surround us while being just minutes to the Interstate, the beaches or the famous outlet malls. Desolation Sound is the Pacific Northwest’s secret ocean jewel. Our residents ride the ships and picnic on its beaches every summer. Lake Whatcom gives the opportunity to choose between salt or fresh water to recreate 12 months of the year. Mt. Baker looms spectacularly from almost every location. Just 25 minutes to the north, the Peace Arch US/Canada border gives passage to the international city of Vancouver, British Columbia. Hop on one of the many ferries and experience high tea in true British fashion at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in B.C’s captivating capital of Victoria, or just walk outside our front door and know you live exactly where you want to be.
A Wonderful Environment
“We knew we were in the right place when we walked through the front door. It just feels like home and everyone seems so friendly and happy.” That is what we hear from all our visitors. Our 49 studio apartments of different sizes and shapes will surprise and delight even the highest of expectations. All senior apartments are on one level. We are nestled within the highly desired south side, surrounded by the Inter Urban path system that winds for miles in all directions. This homey, welcoming senior community of 49 studio apartments is just the right size for socializing and strolling about. Every senior apartment has a huge window with a bright and sunny view of gardens and wildlife. We are all on one level, with no elevators and no stairs, so indoor and outdoor strolls are safe and easily accessible. Here, you can kick back and enjoy life while someone else worries about laundry, cooking and housekeeping. Taking time for yourself and your family can finally be realized.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
Building meaningful relationships with our local hospital, rehab centers, skilled nursing facilities, senior centers and elder care associations is a daily and ongoing mission to ensure we are all working together toward a common goal. To serve our seniors with the most current and respectful care possible.
Not only do residents express their happiness to live here, the staff also feel it is not just a job but a second home where work is lovingly woven together in providing individual care for each and every resident. Our management and staff man this ship with attentive love and affection and have many years experience both in our community and in the senior health care profession.
Brookdale Senior Living has other Washington assisted living and retirement communities in addition to Emeritus at Fairhaven. Read more about all of Brookdale Senior Living senior care services.
Our Community Lifestyle
A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
Our residents are regularly found gathering in the rich and inviting living room enjoying the warmth of a freshly baked cookie with a good friend and neighbor. This is the heart of our senior living community where daily social activities and conversations are exchanged. Residents, family members and staff are often intertwined in lively conversation as you would find in any home. This is home after all. Independence and love of life’s most simple and beautiful creations are appreciated and valued every day. Our residents are encouraged to take part in developing an activity program that appeals to each person’s individual needs. Road trips, shopping, musical groups and lively gaming are often favorites.
Daily activities are conceived, shaped and carefully honed to meet the needs of each and every resident involved. All holidays and beliefs are honored. Resident family members regularly come together with our Emeritus at Fairhaven family, to enjoy plentiful food and good times. Day trips to apple orchards, pumpkin fields and drives around the beautiful town of Bellingham remain some of the most requested outings not withstanding the regular weekly run on the shopping shuttle! Activities that instill the feeling that each person has great value are felt to be most important. Residents lovingly wrap and present home baked cookies to our local police and fire brigade to make sure they know that their services are truly appreciated.
Active Community Relationships
Variety is more than spice in life, it is the key to a vibrant and healthy community both for our residents and all of those involved in making Fairhaven and the City of Bellingham continue to be one of our country’s most desired places to live. Our events are carefully chosen to be of great value to all involved. We seek to entertain, educate and support each resident, their family and the community at large.
The nearby Bellingham Senior Center is one of the best you will find, and our residents often go there for breakfasts, lunches and evenings of entertainment. Fundraising to keep them operating at full potential is a priority for us. Our local Chamber of Commerce vigorously keeps its members active in support of this very unique community initiative.
Three home cooked meals are served restaurant style every day in our spacious and elegant dining room. Breakfast offers varying choices of hot and cold cereal, eggs many ways, breakfast meats, pancakes, waffles and more. Lunches are the big meal of the day with a full salad bar. Dinner tends to be lighter with soups, sandwiches and lots of “fun” food. Deserts are made fresh and enjoyed daily. We use only the freshest ingredients, and packaged food of any kind is kept to a bare minimum. Food is one of the simplest forms of enjoyment and we take our food seriously and often!
At Emeritus at Fairhaven, we help seniors meet their financial needs by partnering with several senior financial solution providers and by developing special programs. To learn more about our financial solution programs click here.
