About Our Community
We have promised ourselves that we shall always treat our residents as we would our own loved ones. Nothing less than our best will do.
This is the promise that the staff at Emeritus at Harrisonburg — and throughout Brookdale Senior Living communities — has shared since 2003, when our community first opened its doors. It’s a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful — a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our retirees who have chosen our community for its active lifestyle.

Our Community Lifestyle
A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
At Emeritus at Harrisonburg we have tailored activities, interest groups, and social gatherings to stimulate mind, body and soul. We begin each day with positive reinforcement thinking and morning dialogue. Our morning stretch and flex exercise group get their juices flowing daily with “sit-ercise” aerobics. Offsite planned trips to the Blue ridge Parkway for picnics, Harrisonburg’s Quilt Museum, an Ice Cream Social at Bruster’s or an evening meal out at one of our home-grown restaurants ensure that our residents are still a vital and active part of the Harrisonburg community. We have strong relationships with James Madison University’s Heath Care Administration program as well as with its Music Programs and they get a healthy dose of intergenerational socialization as a result. The residents here have “adopted” the preschoolers from Minnieland daycare and the children visit the community throughout the year to visit and interact with our seniors. The community observes all holidays and has a spectacular holiday party in December to share in the joys of the holiday season with friends, family and community neighbors.
Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community
We have quarterly community events that involve our residents, our professional partners, our families and the community at large.. Each gathering is typically “themed” and is used as a tool to “put our best foot forward” in regards to overall first impressions as well to partner families with local industry professionals and resources. The community, at various times will host local civic and charitable organizations meetings and gatherings. We have community volunteers who will donate their time and/or talents to make a difference in the lives of residents. We have a weekly piano player who takes requests, JMU students who will read to our residents and assist with crafts and community activities. Area clergy donate their time and resources to ensure that our residents spiritual needs are being meet along with their mental and emotional needs.
