About Our Community
Hermiston, OR Assisted Living
Brookdale Hermiston, formerly Emeritus at Hermiston Terrace, is a Hermiston, OR assisted living community Our community is conveniently located in the small eastern Oregon town of Hermiston on Highland Avenue near Routes 207, I-84 and I-395. We are right in the midst of a residential neighborhood, just minutes to downtown – and only 35 minutes away from Washington State and the Tri-Cities area. Many of our residents are from this area and have chosen to stay here because of their love of the High Desert Country, with its unique dry weather, expansive Cascade Mountain range to the west and close proximity to the Umatilla National Forest in the Blue Mountains, just to our south.

We also offer the convenience of a beauty salon onsite, which is open two to three days a week, as well as free laundry facilities. An outdoor courtyard provides easy access to the out of doors. A large parking area is available for visitors and for our residents who continue to drive.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
Hermiston is a small town, so naturally we have close relationships with most of the medical providers in town. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we take residents to their own physical, occupational or speech therapy appointments. We can also provide transportation to local doctor’s appointments. And occasionally, representatives from our local hearing aid center come to our community to make sure our residents’ hearing aids are working properly. In addition, if a resident requires a higher level of care than we are able to accommodate, we can bring in outside Home Health providers or Hospice care to ensure their complete needs are met, right here. This gives residents the security of being able to “age in place.” Our Residential Care Director and nursing staff will coordinate services for the resident. They also work closely with the discharge planners at Good Shepherd Hospital should a resident require hospitalization or when a new resident is moving in following a hospital stay.
Cheerful, friendly and pleasant are just a few words that might be used to describe our staff – or as some residents have described them, “Fantastic!” Many of our highly skilled and experienced staff members have been here for several years. They cheerfully go about doing their jobs, always keeping in mind that they too have families and that they pride themselves on making Emeritus at Hermiston Terrace the kind of community that they’d feel comfortable having their parents or grandparents live.
Our Community Lifestyle
A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
Brookdale Hermiston was voted Best Assisted Living Facility in the area by the readers of the East Oregonian newspaper. One of the reasons the public knows our community so well are our Thursday night old-time country fiddle performances to which the general public is always invited. This weekly event has been a local favorite for close to five years!
Whether it’s an outside Marimba band performing for our community, our weekly fiddling concerts or an A Cappella group singing chamber choir selections, music is a large part of the rhythm of Brookdale Hermiston. Our staff is another reason we received the “Best Of” award. Most of our staff hasa been here for years. They’re not only experienced in supporting the special needs of seniors, but they are always cheerful and friendly. Our staff has been instrumental in making Brookdale Hermiston a comfortable, homey and active community, with wonderful down-home cooking, lovely décor, many ongoing programs and a strong connection with the community-at-large. Every day and in every way, they live the Brookdale philosophy: “Our family is committed to yours.” And our family doesn’t just mean staff, residents and their loved ones. At Brookdale Hermiston, we also welcome all kinds of small animals, from dogs and cats to birds and fish, into our community!
Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community
Among many outside groups with which we partner includes Canine Comforts, a dog therapy group whose members volunteer their time and their pets to visit libraries, nursing homes, hospitals and other people who could benefit from the companionship. Our residents can’t resist the pups! When Canine Comforts comes to visit, they get on their hands and knees to play and pet the dogs. All of the dogs that participate in the program have a calm and friendly temperament, know or are able to learn appropriate manners and are groomed before visiting.
Our monthly schedule is packed with all kinds of activities – from scenic drives, casino trips and river excursions to a host of programs held right here at Brookdale Hermiston. Just about every day, we offer all sorts of activities, including brain health games like Sudoku and word scrambles, to engage the mind. Exercise is also very popular, especially kick ball, balloon tennis and chair aerobics. Our community also features a pathway around our building designed for easy walking – or for zipping around on a Motorized wheelchair. In fact, many residents enjoy scootering all the way downtown; Emeritus at Hermiston offers great sidewalks. Performances given by local musicians are held several times a month, including our Thursday night fiddler concerts and occasional A Cappella singing groups, who come into our community to entertain residents. We also we offer bingo, arts and crafts, twice weekly Bible study groups and the Red Hat Ladies Club. Holidays are important too. Residents and staff decorate our building for such major holidays as Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition, around the holidays, we have been known to make ornaments and bake cookies, then deliver them in Elf hats to hospitals and other organizations in town.
Our beautiful dining room, with its new furniture, comes alive with activity three times a day, when residents gather for meals. They can choose what they want from two main entrée selections, a choice of sides and of course, dessert! Dinner tends to feature traditional meat and potato dishes, as well as the occasional Mexican or Chinese cuisine. Residents simply fill out a menu card, which is collected by our wait staff, who then serves them their meals, restaurant style. Our chef also loves to do Spotlight Chef dinners, during which he will prepare a more extravagant meal, as well as meals for special occasions like “sweetheart dinners” for our couples on Valentines day, special dinners for couples celebrating their anniversaries and of course, for our monthly birthday bashes.
