About Our Community
Set on beautifully landscaped grounds with a courtyard, gardens, walking trails and a lovely stream, Brookdale Walnut, formerly Emeritus at Villa Colima, is located in the heart of the beautiful city of Walnut – 30 miles east of Los Angeles and Pasadena, and 30 miles west of Riverside. It’s a quiet location that faces a view west to the setting sun in the evenings, and the San Gabriel Mountains are to the north of us.
Located close to Highways 60 and 57, our community is nestled between the hills of Brea and Diamond Bar. We are next door to a beautiful 18-hole golf course and country club. Popular shopping locales and restaurants are within walking distance of our community. We are part of a beautiful neighborhood of families, churches, schools and businesses that serve the needs of our residents.
We take our residents on picnics to the local parks where they can feed the ducks in the lake, and we enjoy the scenic drives in the local mountains. There are community theaters for the thespian, and sporting complexes for the sports enthusiast. We are also about 20 miles from the Nixon Library and birthplace.
Brookdale Walnut is close to several medical facilities, including Inter-Community Hospital, Queen of the Valley Hospital, Whittier Hospital Medical Center, East Valley Hospital Medical, Metropolitan State Hospital, Maryknoll Hospital, Pomona Medical Center and a nursing home rehabilitation facility, if ever needed.
A Wonderful Selection
Brookdale Walnut is a small, cozy community with 85 private apartments, and a 21-bed memory care neighborhood. We offer the full range of senior living options, so residents can remain in the same community even if their health needs change.
Our community offers one-bedroom and studio apartments on two levels with views of the golf course or courtyard. Both companion suites and private living spaces are available in our assisted living and memory care neighborhoods. Our assisted living rooms all come with small kitchenettes, private bathrooms and ample closet space.
The common areas at Brookdale Walnut include a library, two game rooms, a beauty shop and two large TV rooms. We have a private dining room for family gatherings and a large restaurant-style dining room where our residents enjoy their meals with good conversation and friends. We offer a smaller intimate location with a welcoming atmosphere where there are flowers, and smells of fresh-baked cookies, popcorn and delicious food cooking in a beautiful kitchen. We have a building that is safe and secure with a simple floor plan and a staff of caregivers and nurses that understand the needs of seniors and their families.
Our outdoor areas include a beautiful courtyard with roses, a pond with rockery and water plants, and two outside patios. The memory care neighborhood is separated safely with a beautiful enclosed patio and brightly painted walls and its own activity room and quiet space for our residents in need of that specialized care.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
We have strong relationships with Kaiser Hospital, Primecare Medical Group and other local medical groups where many of our residents’ physicians practice. We are in close proximity to St. Jude’s Hospital, Pomona Valley, Kaiser Hospital, San Antonio Hospital and Hoag Memorial.
Local health plans, like Kaiser, Scan, Caremore, Secure Horizons and Blue Cross all work together with our community to provide the care and services our residents deserve. We provide non-emergency transportation to doctor appointments that are within 20 miles of our community.
At Brookdale Walnut, our staff and management are an extension of the families of our residents. We have caregivers and housekeeping staff who have made caring for seniors their life’s work. Our team members have extensive tenure at our community, and in the senior living industry. We are part of the National Association of Residential Care facilities, and, thanks to our wonderful staff, we are recognized as a leading community business in senior care.
Our Community Lifestyle
A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
At Brookdale Walnut, we provide residents with the care they need in an atmosphere that nurtures their quality of life, independence and family values. Our life enrichment programs in both in Assisted Living and Memory Care offer choices in social, physical, cultural, creative and spiritual activities with an emphasis on mental stimulation to help maintain brain health, as well as a healthy lifestyle.
Every day, we have exercise programs and a variety of games and activities to keep our residents healthy, entertained and socializing with each other. We also offer weekly live entertainment, off-site excursions, church services, movie and popcorn night, and Friday night happy hours with hors d’oeuvres and live entertainment. Our residents also love our regular barbecues, our annual luau for residents and families, and our events to celebrate each and every holiday.
Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community
Brookdale Walnut is actively involved in our surrounding community. We work closely with our local senior centers, churches and the local Chamber of Commerce to help educate and support local seniors with our extensive senior care resources.
Our community is also involved in the local fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association, the Cancer Foundation and the Veterans Administration. When possible, we invite local representatives into our community to give seminars on topics that are the most helpful or top of mind to our seniors. We also have trusted local health-care providers come to our community periodically to perform blood pressure testing, blood sugar testing and podiatry services. In addition, volunteers from local colleges work with our residents with games and reading assistance.
At Brookdale Walnut, we have a large restaurant-style dining room where our residents enjoy three delicious meals a day with good conversation and friends. Our community also has a private dining room which is perfect for family gatherings.
