About Our Community
Eastlake Terrace is a short distance from the Toll Road off of Indiana 17 and in close proximity to downtown Main Street and its wonderful independent shops and cafes which our residents have the opportunity to enjoy on our weekly scenic tours. If you need the comfort of a local hospital in the near vicinity, Elkhart General is within five miles and they are renowned for their Orthopedic physicians and Cardiovascular Center.
Our residents not only come from Elkhart, but Bristol, Middlebury, Goshen and Union, Michigan to name a few. All of these small towns are within a 15 minute ride which makes it very convenient for families to visit or for the residents to be able to attend anniversary and birthday parties at their loved ones’ homes.
A Wonderful Selection
Set on an immaculately landscaped, tree-lined eight acres, Eastlake Terrace boasts a patio, gazebo with full grill and seating and sidewalks around the building for your daily exercise routine. Daily exercise is a key component with our residents and you can see a true vibrancy in our morning class. The exuberance spreads to all the staff and you will notice it as your tour will take you through our Main Dining Room, featuring a private suite for parties of up to 20, then onto our studio, and 1- and 2-bedroom apartments. As you walk through, it is very noticeable that we keep our community fresh and feeling new with our continued preventative maintenance program. The staff is very proud of the building and it is of the utmost importance to keep the standards high for our residents and families to enjoy.
Longevity is very important to potential families and residents and it has been a key ingredient to the top notch care we provide. Eastlake Terrace has employees that have many years of service. Our nurses boast a prideful average of three and 1/2 years of tenure which makes it very easy to understand how we know our residents inside and out. This fact alone is very comforting and we are proud of all staff that directly affect each residents life in every department.
Our Community Lifestyle
A Wonderful, Active Lifestyle
Exercise is twice daily beginning in the morning with stretches and weights. It is a great way to start the day and be mentally alert. We have event-filled days here at Eastlake Terrace and that includes the weekends, with approximately seven different opportunities to “Engage Life” every day. Of course everyone loves bingo, but we have a resident computer providing one of the biggest enjoyments which is SKYPE. Many of our residents’ loved ones live out-of-state and by using this program, they are able to see “live” who they are talking with. If you are into hearts or euchre, we have that going on as well. It can get very spirited so be on the lookout.
Are you interested in what the outside community offers? Our 15 person passenger bus takes a weekly scenic ride to places which have included wineries, the South Bend Silver Hawk Triple A ballgame and the Bristol Opera House. Please sign up early because the seats go fast. The transport bus also is available free of charge to take our residents to local doctor appointments.
Our staff at Eastlake is always looking for new ideas to engage the residents and keep them as active and stimulated as possible. We accomplish this through our parent company, Brookdale, which uses the top resources in the country. Once again, we are very proud of our programs especially our Engaged Life Program which we think is the best in the area.
Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community
We have been a strong part of this community for several years and proud to call Elkhart home. The Council on Aging, Senior Center YMCA and Boardwalk Retirement Community are a few of the local organizations we assist monthly in providing services which include luncheons, blood sugar and blood pressure checks and activities such as bingo. St. John’s United Church of Christ is also an active member of our community. They hold service at the community every Sunday and the public is welcome. Not only does it benefit their congregation but it allows our residents a weekly mass that everyone looks forward to. We are strong believers in giving back because the Elkhart community has given us so much.
Eastlake Terrace is a true 5 Star dining program. Breakfast is by resident choice. Eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon or all four – it’s the residents’ choice. For lunch we offer two main entrees and a litany of always available options. This holds true for dinner as well. Soup or salad and dessert are always offered so no one leaves the dining room hungry. The hours of operation are also unique to the senior housing sector. The dining room is open from 7am until 6pm and the residents are able to eat when they like. Many do not like to rise early, so sleep in, wake up and get ready, then enjoy your omelet or cereal at 9am.
Often times the nursing staff are the servers at other buildings. At Eastlake Terrace we have a dedicated dining room team that consists of cooks and servers. This allows our direct care staff to provide the medical attention that is required and allows the servers to assist in placing orders and serving the food. Our Food Service Director has years of experience and that combined with knowledge of our residents allows us to provide the highest quality dining experience.
Strong, Caring, Professional Relationships
For 15 years, Eastlake Terrace has been a staple of Elkhart County. Lasting relationships have been built with the local physicians, hospital, nurses and home health agencies. Their trust has been gained by the care we have and will continue to provide which is a salute to our staff and the residents we receive from the respective agency or practice. As a tribute to this, Eastlake Terrace was recently awarded “Top Assisted Living Provider” for 2012 by the Elkhart Truth and reader response for Elkhart County. This was a proud moment for us all.
