About Our Community

Tucson, AZ Assisted Living

Brookdale Catalina Foothills, formerly Emeritus at Catalina Foothills, is a Tuzson, AZ assisted living and Alzheimer’s care community for seniors. Just as our name implies, our community is located in a residential area nestled in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains that surround Tucson. Manor Care Skilled Nursing and Hospice Family Care are on our property, making it convenient should residents require specialized health-care services. Our community is also just four miles from Tucson Medical Center – and 20 minutes from the University of Arizona.

Several major malls are within a 15-minute drive, including the Tucson Mall. With a variety of other stores – Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreen’s and several grocery stores – close by, we have outings for shopping and running errands. In addition, we occasionally make day trips to one of several national parks and wilderness areas just beyond Tucson, including Sabino Canyon. And just about every day, the weather cooperates nicely. Tucson tends to be hot and dry; with little rain, no snow and no major weather events that plague other parts of the country. Just sunshine, sunshine and more sunshine!

A Wonderful Selection

Brookdale Catalina Foothills underwent a major renovation recently and has been consistently maintained over the years. It’s beautifully appointed and spacious, offering 78 studio, one-bedroom, one-bedroom deluxe and two-bedroom units for our assisted living residents. Units range from 300 to 700 square feet. All apartments include a kitchenette with a microwave, sink, small refrigerator/freezer, a private bathroom with a walk-in no-lip shower and built-in shower chair, large windows that flood the units with light, and wall-to-wall carpeting in the bedroom and living areas. In addition, residents are given an emergency call pendant to wear and all apartments include a built-in emergency call system in the bathroom. Small pets are welcome in our community, for as long as the resident is able to care for them.

Residents also have access to several common areas, including multiple cafes. Our lovely library offers Internet access and a book magnifying system. Our community center is an all-in-one space for our exercise programs, movie nights and social gatherings. Brookdale Catalina Foothills also has its own beauty salon/barber shop, arts and crafts room, a wellness center, and laundry facilities. Our community also features a wonderful outdoor area; with a covered veranda, barbecue area, covered walk ways and a fully furnished patio.

Located on the first floor, our Memory Care Neighborhood is smaller – just 18 studio apartments, each with a private bath and shower. Like our assisted living community, Memory Care residents also have access to several common areas, where they spend most of their days. These include a spacious living room, family room, full dining room and secured outside courtyard with walking paths.

Strong, Caring Professional Relationships

Outside health-care providers are welcomed into our community to provide services right here, on site, for the convenience of our residents. These include home health providers, as well as occupational, physical and speech therapists. We can make recommendations to trusted providers, but it’s always up to the resident and his or her family to choose whomever they’d like to work. Depending upon the needs of the residents, services are offered in our common areas, in our exercise rooms or in the resident’s private apartment.

In addition, we have a close relationship with a major pharmacy in Phoenix. We also offer the services of a podiatrist, who visits our community regularly – a terrific convenience, especially for those of our residents who have diabetes.

Residents are also welcome to use any Hospice provider in the area should they require end-of-life or palliative care. As necessary, we can work with the families to help facilitate this service.

Our caring and dedicated staff are a special group of people – patient, understanding and compassionate – who have the best interests of our residents in their hearts and minds. If you were to walk around our community, you might find our staff spending time keeping residents company, engaging them in conversation, taking them to activities or asking them what they can do to make their day the best it can be.

Our Community Lifestyle

A Wonderful, Active Lifestyle

Many of our residents take full advantage of our daily calendar of activities. Our days may begin with some form of exercise, whether it’s wheelchair tai chi or a walk in the park along the dry river bed. Nearly every day, we have arts and crafts, including activities such as beading – a favorite among residents. In fact, on occasion, residents have made jewelry to sell during craft fairs, with the monies raised going to the local Alzheimer’s Association chapter.

Our community also has frequent movie nights and weekly ice cream socials in our Coca Cola café, which looks just like a café out of the 1950’s; with black and white checked floors, a juke box and a popcorn maker. Residents also love to “do their own thing,” whether that’s playing cards, bingo or bridge, putting together puzzles or getting together a billiard tournament in our third-floor pool room. We also bring in outside entertainment frequently. In addition, volunteers come into our community to lead church services and bible readings during the week. And we provide transportation for those of our residents who wish to go to their local church.

Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community

Every month, Emeritus at Catalina Foothills facilitates an Alzheimer’s support group, led by one of our memory impairment experts. This group is open to anyone in the Tucson area who wishes to learn more about Alzheimer’s and other memory impairments – or who needs support in caring for a loved one.

We also participate in the local Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s; and we raise funds throughout the year for this wonderful national event. From yard sales and craft fairs to book drives and silent auctions, all of the money we raise at Emeritus at Catalina Foothills goes to support the Alzheimer’s Association.

Fine Dining

Brookdale’s philosophy is to provide our residents with abundant choices at mealtime because the older adult who eats well enjoys a better quality of life. Our passion for great food and service is evident in Brookdale’s dining solutions. We understand the link between nutrition and our residents’ quality of life.

Menus are a true reflection of the taste and preferences of our residents. Brookdale’s Menu Manager Program has been designed to ensure that our residents receive nutritionally-balanced menus while continuing to offer variety and resident favorites. We encourage the limited use of restricted therapeutic diets. For individuals who require a therapeutic diet, Brookdale offers eight approved, therapeutic diets in addition to the standard diet.
