Virginia Wylie: Sissies

Virginia teaches a regular “Virginia’s Poetry Corner” session in the library. She wrote the first two stanzas of “Sissies” and the group worked together to do the last part. “We had fun and ended up giving each other hugs.”

“Old age is not for sissies!”
I’m sure you’ve heard that one
Maybe, like me, you are one
I’m a genuine, red-blooded old sissy
So how do we sissies cope?
For us is there any hope?

While I’m being contemplative
I consider the alternative…
Yes, I want to hang around
On that, allow me to expound:
Let me see babies grow, hear music flow
Smell, touch, and taste earth’s show
I want to learn what’s yet to know…

Altogether, now, fellow sissies:
1. Live one day at a time
2. Do the best you can (it’s good enough)
3. Look after each other
4. Pray for peace, harmony, and each other
5. Take a deep breath
6. Laugh and love
7. Give yourself and others a pat on the back
8. Give yourself and others a big hug
9. Add to this list.
