Betty Ago: Lame

A party interested in a Brookdale community asked, “Is the entertainment lame?”

Entertainment lame?

Is it all the same?

Does your enthusiasm wane?

Who is there to blame?

Pianists of great fame!

Grateful that they came!

Singing “Nothing Like a Dame”

Or a little bit of “Mame”

If you prefer a game, 

Just tell us the whole name.

Some may think it tame.

But, to you it won’t be lame.

Brookdale generally does not plan our entertainment; therefore, the question would have to be addressed on an individual community basis. At our CCRC, we have a very competent and responsive activities department.

Once a month there is a planning meeting to which all residents are welcome. Our opinions on past programs are solicited to decide if a particular entertainer should be repeated. We are encouraged to suggest new programs.

We have 2-3 movies in the auditorium every week (Old, new, drama, comedy, foreign, musical, etc.). Twice a week we show documentaries (history, science, travel). Once a month we have a classical music concert via video streaming. There is a lot of live entertainment also. Classical musicians, show tunes, dance troops, guide dog demonstrations, magicians, fashion shows, community band concerts – all in house.

Then there are the trips to local theaters, dinner theaters, and concert venues. Our bus takes residents to the city for major orchestral concerts. I’m probably forgetting something. I don’t attend or enjoy everything. However, there really is something for everyone.  

In short, if you don’t like the entertainment at your community, get involved and change it!
