Eighty-Eight-Year-Old Barry Flies Again

Throughout our lives we make many memories, but there are always a few special memories that remain at the forefront of our minds. For Barry Elpern of Brookdale North Euclid of Ontario, California, one of his most meaningful memories during his lifetime was flying solo in a Piper J3 airplane again during his time in the military 65 years ago.

At 88-years-old, it was his Wish to fly in a Piper J3 once again.

His lifetime of experiences and accomplishments are certainly impressive.

At 17 years old, Barry entered the Army in Boca Raton, Fla. and ended his military career as a Corporal in a unit based in Alaska. After completing his military service, Barry pursued a degree at the University of Pittsburgh where received his PH.D. in audiology. He then did research work at the University of Chicago which led to an opportunity to study alongside research colleagues in Denmark.

Thanks to Brookdale and Wish of a Lifetime, Barry was able to fly in a Piper J3 with the Brookdale North Euclid Activities Director Jakina Tate, in late November 2017.
