Melva G Goes Zip Lining
Melva G (88) has been drawn to adventurous activities her whole life. She has been parasailing and flying in a glider plane. One thing that Melva has always wanted to do is to go zip lining in Scotts Valley, CA.
Melva has dedicated a great portion of her time to volunteering. She was involved in the Senior Citizens Club in Cayucos, CA, and served as their President for 2 years. She also volunteered as a Camp Fire Girl Leader for 7 years when her daughter was young. She currently helps out around Brookdale San Jose, including organizing a flea-market sale that benefited the hourly associates.
With the help of Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale, Melva’s wish finally came true on July 15, 2016. Melva went to Mount Herman Adventures with her son-in-law, David on the Redwood Canopy Tour. They spent 2 hours on six different zip lines and two sky bridges that were up to 150 feet above the ground.
Melva and David said they had a phenomenal time. The view was beautiful and and they felt very safe during the entire experience. Melva said that people often tell her she can’t do things because of her age, but this trip showed them that “you just have to get in and try something new”. This experience made Melva feel very energized and ready for the next adventure. David said that, “Melva spent her next day making sure that everybody knew what she did”. She says her next goal is to go sky diving when she’s 90.
