What Our Memory Care Community Can Offer You
Just because someone you love is experiencing memory loss, it doesn't mean that they should have to sacrifice their quality of life. Our residents spend their days in a safe place, surrounded by familiar people who encourage them to enjoy life, experience feelings of belonging and purpose, and maintain their current skills through our daily path of engagement.
Here are just a few of the ways we help the seniors in our memory care programs make the most of this season of their lives:
A Secure Setting
Built specifically for residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia, our building has keypad entrances and monitored exits. Secure community outdoor spaces allow for the preservation of your loved one’s independence and outdoor access while providing purpose with gardening, nature paths, outdoor exercise, sensory experiences, and more. Our community is set up with spaces decorated like home, way-finding cues, and large circular paths designed to lead residents to areas of activity. You’ll also have peace of mind knowing there is trained staff available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to be alerted to an emergency.
A Warm and Welcoming Atmosphere
Surrounded by your favorite things and people who love you—that’s home. Our apartments have plenty of natural window light and some even have a garden view. And you and your family have several floor plans to choose from. We help our families make their loved ones’ apartments familiar and comfortable with a move-in guide and a suggested list of what to bring. Brookdale Ithaca is a pet-friendly community because we know it’s not really home without our four-legged family members with us.
Consistent Care Assignments
We know how difficult it can be to make the decision to move your family member into a memory care community. But with our kind and compassionate staff, you can feel a deep sense of peace knowing our community is a place where your loved one will thrive. We will be here to offer encouragement and gentle reminders as your family member enjoys a variety of dementia-friendly programming. They will benefit from all the love and attention our care team provides as they walk alongside them each day, because we assign the same care partners to your loved one whenever possible to encourage regularity and familiarity.
Our daily path of engagement is an evidence-based practice that helps our residents maintain their abilities and provides a sense of security and accomplishment. With a gentle daily structure of six planned programs per day, craft classes, trivia, gardening and yoga are just a few of activities included. Your loved one will be surrounded by others with the same cognitive abilities, giving them a feeling of fitting in and a sense of purpose, meaning and belonging, all while they complete tasks and activities related to everyday life.
Personalized Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care
Our memory care program is deeply rooted in a person-centered approach focused on creating feelings of purpose and belonging for your loved one while seeking to preserve their identity and sense of self. Our Crossings program is designed for individuals in the early stages of Alzheimer’s or dementia who often experience a loss of self-esteem and social isolation as they become aware of their own cognitive decline. With our Solace program, we help meet the unique needs of residents living with the advanced stages of dementia, striving to keep them engaged and continually making meaningful connections.
