Brookdale is a pioneer in the development of Memory Care and our beautiful property offers 60 studio apartments, most with views of our secured exterior courtyard.
A Beautiful Place to Call Home
Our community has four wings, each its own neighborhood with 15 studio apartments. Each neighborhood has its own kitchen, living room and dining room. Apartments are bright and cheerful and include private bathrooms with safety rails. Eight of our studios can be rented as companion suites should a resident desire the companionship of a roommate or wish to save on rent.
In addition, we offer several common areas, including a community center, art studio and new movie theater. Residents have complete access to our huge exterior courtyard, which surrounds the building and provides many walking paths and a gardening area.
An Active Lifestyle
Scheduled activities are different every day, but often start with some form of exercise to keep residents moving and help them build strength and flexibility. Throughout the day we bring outside entertainers in to play music, show movies, involve residents in bingo and card games. Some activities are focused on snacks like daily ice cream socials, and we offer many arts and crafts.
As part of the Memories in the Making program through the local Alzheimer’s Association, we provide painting and drawing classes and participate in their annual art show. We are proud to say that in recent years, two of our residents have won! Every week, we take residents out for different activities, from trips to our local Blackhawk casino to picnics in the park.
Families are also very involved with our community, and every quarter we have a major family event. Family members frequently donate their time and help organize activities, such as overseeing bingo games or helping with our non-alcoholic happy hours. We also have special tea socials, just for our ladies, and Guys Night, when our male residents watch a sports game while enjoying pizza.
Brookdale’s Fine Dining
Three savory home-style meals and three delicious snacks are served daily in group dining areas. Each meal offers a featured entrée and many alternate options are available to meet individual preferences. Delicious food, a friendly staff and great companionship make our dining experience special. We also provide easy-to-eat snacks between meals, helping to ensure that proper nutrition and calories are offered each day.
Designed by a team of culinary associates, experts specializing in dementia care and registered dieticians, our dining program sustains each resident, giving an opportunity to enjoy and master the dining experience. The program offers specialized aspects such as dementia-friendly menus, individualized dining assistance and preserving the use of utensils.
To help alleviate any confusion or added stress, we keep mealtimes very routine for our Memory Care community. All residents sit together at the same time and same table each day. Place settings are designed to enhance and provide ease for each person, and meals can quickly be converted to hand-held for those that prefer walking or standing, rather than sitting.

Memory Care at Brookdale offers programs and a secure environment for those with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia. Deeply rooted in a person-centered approach, our program focuses on sustaining feelings of belonging and purpose, while seeking to preserve a sense of self.
This concept has evolved over a quarter of a century by continually embracing the latest research and innovations in the delivery of quality dementia care. The Brookdale communities have cared for thousands of individuals with dementia, as well as for their families.
Our community offers the Clare Bridge memory care program, which features peaceful surroundings and a setting designed to re-create environments people have enjoyed throughout their lives. Interior spaces are scaled and decorated like those of a private home, and enclosed walking areas give residents the opportunity to safely explore their surroundings.
The Clare Bridge Daily Path provides a gentle structure to each day and targets specific needs of those with Alzheimer’s and various types and levels of dementia. It features:
- Morning Mental Workout – which are daily late morning mental exercises including discussions, brain stimulating games and reminiscing.
- Daily Physical Activity – includes a variety of exercise opportunities including group exercises, walking programs and dancing.
- Daily Life Skills – are individual or group activities that provide a sense of purpose, meaning and belonging.
- Person-Centered Life Enrichment Programming – has activities designed using the residents own social history information as a foundation.
The Clare Bridge Dining Program was recognized as “Best of the Best” in the industry by the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) and is a unique program designed by a team of specialists to help those with Alzheimer’s and dementia master and enjoy successful dining experiences. It offers dementia-friendly menus, individualized dining assistance, a supportive environment and consistent seating arrangements.
We are designed to reduce confusion, provide safety and allow complete freedom of movement in an effort to provide better and brighter days for each resident and their family members. It is our goal to honor each person and their life stories by offering life enriching activities that complement their past traditions, hobbies and interests.
Brookdale is dedicated to maintain professional relationships with visiting physician groups, home health agencies and hospice agencies, as well as professional companion companies to support you and your loved one. These relationships allow residents to remain in their home here and often prevent the need to relocate to a nursing home.
Our community has tremendous pride and is fortunate to have longevity and tenure of its caregiving, nursing, dietary and housekeeping staff. Team members are committed to making a difference for the seniors we serve and take time to know each resident and their individual needs. At Pinehurst Park, we are a family and the care we provide is truly exceptional.
Providing excellent dementia care is a complex task that requires ongoing guidance and teaching for our staff members. All associates receive initial and on-going training in proper techniques, approach and support for seniors with dementia.
This established set of protocols and techniques enables associates to intervene when challenging behaviors resulting from dementia arise. The whole-community philosophy is the key that empowers all of our staff to identify any unmet needs and be a part of the solution.
