Pets at Brookdale
We know that pets are an important part of the family, which is why the majority of our apartments are pet-friendly. We recognize that your cat or dog is more than a companion—they’re important to your daily life and good for your health. Before you bring your pet to your new home, be sure to check with your community to see if there are any weight or breed restrictions.
Dr. Marty Becker, DVM, joined us on our In The Know Webinar for a conversation about dog breeds for seniors, common pet health issues and more.
Furry friends have a real impact on our lives and our wellness.
With a little preparation, you can help a pet adjust to moving to your new home.
Meet Our Pets
Many of our communities are pet-friendly. These communities allow a variety of animals, such as dogs, cats, birds, rodents (including rabbits), fish and turtles. Any birds or rodents kept as pets will need to be properly caged. Be sure to check with your individual community to learn about their pet policy.
Prior to moving into your new home, you must register your pet and make sure it has up-to-date vaccinations before receiving approval from your community. You will also pay a non-refundable pet fee.
You are responsible for the care of your pet, including feeding, walks, housebreaking needs and any medications required. Some communities have add-on services that can assist with tasks like walking or feeding, but these services aren't typically included in your basic service rate.
When walking your pet, be sure to avoid community food preparation and dining areas, as most health laws prohibit animals in such locations (except for bona fide service animals). If the pet is a dog or a cat, it will need to wear a collar with appropriate identification (including your phone number) at all times.
Typically, you are allowed one pet in your apartment.
