Richard Brian: "Sharing Painting with Friends is My Passion"

Once a teacher, always a teacher — or at least that’s what Richard Brian believes. As he retired and moved into a Brookdale community, he knew he wanted to contribute something through teaching.

“I thought as a teacher, ‘I’ve got to have something to teach,’” he says. “This was the natural thing. I took up painting again.”

Being able to help his fellow residents channel their creativity through art gives him a purpose.

“It’s been a lovely thing for me as a teacher, the fact that I had a chance to teach something was far more important than what it was,” Brian says.
