1. Get physically fit.

In the Forbes Health survey, this was the top resolution, with 48% of respondents vowing to improve their fitness in 2024. If you’re looking to expand your workout repertoire in the new year, why not give pickleball, tai chi or swimming a try? Or you can take a tried-and-true staple—walking—and give it a twist.

Don’t forget to consult your doctor before jumping into a new fitness program. And check out these resources on how to help you avoid workout injuries, and how stretching and foam rolling can help some people relieve pain.

2. Boost mental health.

Emotional well-being is top of mind for many respondents—36% of those responding to the Forbes Health survey cited improved mental health as a resolution to strive for. Whether it’s the “winter blues” or something more persistent, such as depression, anxiety or PTSD, mental health is an important component of overall health.

Consider implementing a new habit such as a gratitude practice or meditation to potentially help reduce stress and improve your mood. Or start the year by reaching out to renew an old friendship to help manage loneliness.

3. Improve finances.

After health, money was one of the most popular concerns for survey respondents—38% resolved to better their financial situation next year. If you’re in this camp, you may want to learn about high-yield savings accounts, to check out a new finance podcast, or to consider hiring a financial planner to help you make progress towards your financial goals. You can also start planning now to help make senior living more affordable when the time comes.

Not into resolutions? Try making a New Year vision board instead.
